GoPro Helmet Cameras | GoPro HD | GoPro Hero
GoPro has two different helmet cam models available - the HD Hero and the HD Hero2. The GoPro HD Hero shoots in full 1080p HD and is available in four different kits: the Helmet, Motorsports, Surf and Naked kits. The only difference between these kits is the mounts that come in the kit. The GoPro HD Hero2 is an updated version with an improved LCD screen and more shooting modes. THe HD Hero2 is available in three different kits, the only difference between these kits is the mounts that they come with.
GoPro HD Hero key features
The GoPro HD Hero range of cameras are the best selling range of helmet cameras in the world. The HD Hero was the first helmet camera to be released with full 1080p HD recording. These cameras are known for their bombproof waterproof housings which are rated to 60m metres and provide excellent protection for the camera.
Wide angles lens for maximum field of view
GoPro was the first company to move to an extra wide 170 degree field of view lens, which at the time seemed way to wide for a lot of applications. They were on the money however and the 170 degree wide angle lens is now the industry standard. The extra wide angle lens ensures you capture all the action and it also helps to make your footage look buttery smooth.
Full HD video recording
All of the GoPro HD Hero cameras shoot full HD 1080p video, although the field of view is reduced to 127 degrees in this mode with the HD Hero (not the HD Hero2). In addition to shooting in full HD, you have the option of shooting at 720p (at 30 or 60 frames per second) as well as 960p which is a very tall mode which works great with mounts such as the Chest Harness.
The most popular shooting mode is 720p at 30 frames per second. This mode gives you the full 170 degree field of view and is a bit clearer than the 1080p mode which uses onboard upscaling to get the full 1920 x 1080 HD video, plus it helps save some space on your SD card and computer as the files are much smaller. If you want to make super smooth slow motion videos then you can put the GoPro HD Hero and Hero2 in to the 720p at 60 frames per second mode.
Take unique photos with up to11 megapixel resolution
Now with GoPro you can capture amazing onboard photos effortlessly with the HD Hero cameras. Not only can you use the camera like a normal point and shoot camera, you can also set it up to shoot photos every 2, 5, 10. 30 or 60 seconds, allowing you to concentrate on the action while the camera take the photos (5MP with the HD Hero and up to 11MP with the Hero2). The GoPro HD Hero cameras also have a 3-shot burst photo mode and a self timer mode and the Hero2 has a "10 photos in one second" photo burst.
Lots of mounting options
GoPro cameras are available in a wide range of kits that include the same HD Hero camera but have different mounts. Motorsports fans using their camera for car racing, motocross, snowmobiling, quading and any other powersport can get the GoPro HD Motorsports Hero kit which includes adhesive based helmet and flat surface mounts along with a suction cup mount. The Helmet and Outdoor Hero package includes adhesive based helmet mounts along with a headstrap mount and a vented helmet mount to suit open helmets such as cycling helmets. The Naked kit doesn't come with any mounts, allowing you to build up your own custom mounting kit.
GoPro also has a wide range of mounts and accessories available. Unique to GoPro is the Chest Mount harness which allows you to mount the camera on your chest, providing a very immersive point of view. There is also a slew of other mounts available for things like handlebars and roll bars along with a full range of spare parts for the waterproof housing. The HD Hero and Hero2 cameras also have an expansion slot which will allow you to connect the new Bacpac range of accessories such as the LCD Bacpac and the Battery Bacpac. The latest innovation from GoPro is the 3D Housing which allows you to connect two HD Hero cameras together and capture stunning 3D video.
