Drift HD helmet camera FAQs
1. How much recording time do I get per GB?
You will get approximately 11 minutes per GB.
2. What is the largest card size I can use?
The Drift HD takes a microSD card, the biggest card you can use is a 32GB card.
3. How long will the battery last?
The battery will last approximately 2.5 ~ 3 hours, depending on temperature and settings.
4. Does the Drift HD shoot in widescreen?
Yes, it shoots in 16:9 (widescreen) in 1080p (with 130 degree field of view) and 720p modes (with 170 degree field of view).
5. Is a wide angle or telephoto lens available?
The Drift HD has an extra wide angle 170 degree field of view which has become the industry standard for helmet cameras. This makes the video very smooth to watch and does a great job of capturing all the action. There isn't any alternative lens options available for the Drift HD. In the 720p modes there is the option of applying up to 4x digital zoom to pull your shot in closer.
6. Is the Drift HD waterproof?
The official line from Drift is that the camera is weather and water resistant, meaning that it can be used in the rain and mud all day and it will be fine, however they do not recommend full submersion of the camera. We have found the camera can withstand gentle submersion but there is a risk of flooding if it is used for high impact watersports such as wakeboarding and surfing. Drift will be releasing a waterproof housing that will make the Drift HD full waterproof.
7. What format does the Drift HD record in?
Videos are saved as .mov using H.264 compression.
8. Does it record audio?
Yes, the Drift HD has an onboard microphone that records audio. You can adjust the sensitivity of the microphone to suit your application - if you are using the camera for motorsports you can turn the microphone down and for other quieter activities you can turn the microphone up. You also have the option of plugging in an external microphone via the 2.5mm microphone input jack.
9. Can I watch my videos back from the Drift HD?
Yes, you can watch your clips back on the screen of the Drift HD or you can connect it directly to a HD TV via the HDMI (type D) connector on the camera. Alternatively, you can connect the camera to your computer and download the clips to watch/edit on your computer.
10. What are the mounts like?
The helmet mount is very stable, especially when used in conjunction with 3M Dual Lock (instead of normal velcro). The base of the camera has a 1/4" female receptacle so that the camera can be used with mounts such as the XXL Roll Bar Mount and the Power Suction Cup Mount.
11. How much is shipping and how long does it take?
Shipping is included free of charge. Orders are normally sent the same day they are received (before 12pm PST) and take 1-5 days within Canada (depending on your location, allow extra for remote areas). You can upgrade to express shipping for a small charge at checkout.
